Betsy Petersen (Artist and Illustrator)

Betsy Petersen

On a lazy, and rather chilly, Sunday afternoon last week, I decided to pass the time by scrolling through my much-neglected Pinterest feed. I clicked a few things and then I clicked a few more and somehow I ended up on the website of artist and illustrator Betsy Petersen. I don't know I ended up there, but I'm so glad I did! Her work is so colorful and cheery. It definitely brightened up an otherwise dreary afternoon and made me smile. :-)

You can check out more of Betsy's work here on her website and on her Instagram feed. Scroll down to see her inspirations, which include electronic music from Yemen, a hip hop artist from Detroit, and an Iranian-born author. Enjoy! ~Erin

Listen

Habib Galbi by A-WA. Love the song, and the music video is like a mini Middle Eastern Wes Anderson film.

Read

Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi. I stumbled upon it in the library staff picks and it has been the most impactful book I've read in a while. It's a graphic autobiography of a spunky girl who loves jean jackets and punk rock and comes of age in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. Now more than ever, people in America need to try to understand people who live differently than we do. This book helps.

Watch

This is technically another listen, but I've loved this music video by Danny Brown since 2012 and I have to share it. Seeing kids as tiny adults is one of my favorite things. Especially stylish, good dancing ones. Speaking of music videos with little kids singing as adults . . . I also love Tighten Up by the Black Keys.
