Gregory Crewdson (Photographer)

There are few photographers that tug at my heartstrings like Gregory Crewdson. I've always been drawn to artists who have the ability to evoke strong emotions with their work and Gregory does that and then some. With a single photograph he is able to convey feelings we all have, but are unable to express. Dark feelings. Uncomfortable feelings. Muddy feelings. His images may be intricately staged and set, each person and object perfectly placed, but the end result is always powerful and deeply moving.

See what I mean! Gregory is an incredibly talented man who has inspired a generation of artists who have followed in his wake. I can't tell you how many times I have looked at an artist's work and thought, this reminds me of Gregory Crewdson. I've seen his influence not only in work by other photographers, but fine artists as well. His fingerprint is there, whether the person realizes it or not.

If you would like to delve deeper into Gregory's phenomenal work, you should definitely watch the film Brief Encounters (trailer above). Shot over a number of years, it is fascinating look at his process. I just rewatched the trailer and I got a little bit teary-eyed. Don't ask me what that was about!
