Narangkar Glover (Artist)

Narangkar Glover

A couple of weeks ago, I happened to stumble upon the work of today's contributor, artist Narangkar Glover, and I instantly fell in love! A large amount of Narangkar's work is incredibly personal, inspired by the place of her birth, New Mexico, and the experiences she had growing up in India. Born to American Sikh converts, Narangkar spent most of her childhood at a girls boarding school in India called Shangri-La and she has a series of paintings titled the Shangri-La Girls that I'm pretty much obsessed with.

Once you know Narangkar's story, the paintings take on a deeper meaning, but there is still something universal about them. She so perfectly captures the loneliness and isolation of childhood that the viewer is able to project their own memories onto the canvas. It's amazing how she's able to take a very unique and unusual experience and make it feel so familiar. The style may be simplified, but the images are still visually compelling and emotional.

To see more of Narangkar's artwork, you can visit her website and find her on Instagram. Read on to learn about her inspirations. Thanks, Narangkar! ~Erin
