Kimothy Joy Pikor (Illustrator)
Today I'm going to tell you a story. A story about me and illustrator Kimothy Joy Pikor. A story I like to call "six degrees of inspiration." Like all classic tales, it begins with an email, specifically
an email from illustrator Mari Andrew. You may remember that Mari was kind enough to share her inspirations with us last week and when she emailed me her list, among her favorites was the Instagram page of one Kimothy Joy. Of course, I immediately clicked on Mari's link to check it out and was instantly smitten!!
Kimothy's Instagram is chock full of so many smart, strong, inspiring women! I loved it so much that within thirty minutes, I had sent Kimothy an email, asking her to share her inspirations with us, AND ordered her fantastic Make America Kind Again t-shirt. When I first saw it, I thought, Where can I get that shirt??? I was happy to discover that you can, indeed, order it through her website, right here. You should also make sure to check out her Instagram page where you can find more of her wonderful work. In the words of Mari Andrew, "She has some great little bios of remarkable women, and a lot of reasons to hope." I couldn't have said it better myself.
Read more about Kimothy's inspirations below. On her list is the site Brain Pickings, which is also one of my favorite sites. I first heard about it from my friend Anne Yen, who is also a Listen Read Watch contributor. See how everything comes around! Six Degrees of Inspiration. It's totally going to become a thing! :-) Thanks, Kimothy! ~Erin
Listen
I’m a bit obsessed with On Being by Krista Tippet. I incessantly refresh her podcast waiting for the new episode each Thursday. It really fuels and inspires me. It’s very multi-disciplinary—interviews with rabbis, pastors, artists, physicists, activists, writers, etc.—but all with this really deep dive into the spirituality of everything. I can’t get enough! Also, her voice is very lulling in a way that puts me at ease while I’m painting. (I just listened to the Alain de Botton episode on love and relationships. Every adult human being should listen to it. ~Erin)
Read
Can I mention Mari Andrew and bring it back full circle? She is such an inspiration with her tender-hearted illustrations and quick-witted insight into being a woman in this day and age.
I would also mention Brain Pickings by Maria Popova. It is my favorite little place on the internet to get my brain going and spark my imagination.
Watch
I don’t really watch a lot of television or movies. I prefer to listen to music/podcasts/news mostly. However, I recently loved a more blockbuster type of movie and sci-fi for that matter! Arrival starring Amy Adams was stunning. I even bought the short sci-fi book the movie is based on called “Story of Your Life” by Ted Chiang.
