Sandra Eterovic (Artist and Illustrator)

Sandra Eterović

I'm a huge fan of painted portraits. After photography was invented, and became increasingly more popular, many assumed that portraiture would simply disappear, but there are many, many artists out there still painting pictures of people, whether real or imagined. One of those people is Sandra Eterović, an Australian artist who creates colorful and whimsical portraits that draw inspiration from folk art and every day life. But Sandra doesn't limit her work to the canvas. Most of her paintings are actually acrylic on wood and, moving beyond classic portraiture, she also creates a variety of human sculptures, painting people on everything from vintage ping pong paddles to clothes hangers! Her work even pops up on pillows, clocks, and mirrors. The range of materials she uses is really incredible!

Sandra's work always makes me smile. It's a fun reminder that art doesn't always have to be so serious, that it can have a sense of humor and still make a statement about the culture that surrounds us. I've shared some of my favorite pieces above, but, really, this is a super tiny selection of her work. You can see a lot more from Sandra on her website, on Instagram, and through Etsy. Scroll down to read all about her inspirations! Thanks, Sandra! ~Erin

Listen

I have been looking forward to the Jacky Winter Gives You The Business podcast every Friday. I work as a freelance illustrator, so this window into one of Melbourne's most respected agencies is invaluable. Did you know that you can actually ASK a client what their budget is before you send them a quote?!!

Read

I am onto the fifth volume of My Struggle by Karl Ove Knausgaard. I have now read thousands of pages and know every shameful detail of the author's life. Along with Knausgaard's intelligence and humour, it's the level of honesty that makes this series so compelling.

Watch

My fellow and I have been watching series 1-3 of Fargo. I loved Martin Freeman and Kirsten Dunst in the first two series. The current one doesn't come close.
