Kanako Abe (Artist)

Kanako Abe

Today's contributor, Kanako Abe, is a talented papercut artist whose work draws inspiration from the natural world. From delicate animals to intricate trees and leaves, Kanako's work is so well-crafted and detailed that the lines often resemble those of a pen and ink drawing, when, in fact, it is so much more! I'm always amazed at what an artist can do with paper, the way they can create such fragile, fine artworks with a simple X-Acto knife. I remember using one in my high school design class and it was not easy! It takes a lot of patience and a steady hand, which is why I'm so impressed with Kanako's work! I especially like the way her pieces play with shadow and movement. In addition to her lacy, black artwork, I'm also a big fan of her adorable "magic boxes." She says they "take me to any place I want to be." I love that!
