Tereza Zelenkova (Photographer)

Tereza Zelenkova

When I first discovered the work of today's contributor, photographer Tereza Zelenkova, it was a few days before Halloween and I was immediately struck by the spookiness of her images. But I've spent a lot of time with her work over the past couple of weeks, and I've come to realize that her photographs aren't merely spooky, but are layered with all sorts of implications. Her images don't evoke a single feeling, but many emotions, all at once.

Born in the Czech Republic and now based in London, Tereza creates beautiful and haunting black-and-white photographs that are inspired by her fascination with myth and folklore, particularly stories that originated in her native country. From a paparazzi-like shot of a ghostly figure covered in hair to an image of Freud's shockingly phallic desk chair (see below), Tereza's work is an incredible blend of the real and the imagined.
