Vesha Parker (Fiber Artist)

Vesha Parker

Vesha Parker is my crafty gal hero! A graduate of Cornell University, she spends her days as a software engineer at Etsy. On nights and weekends, she embroiders, knits, makes pottery, and bakes fancy desserts! She's using both the right brain and the left brain on a daily basis, which I really admire! Some days, I feel like I'm not utilizing any part of my brain, let alone both!

I was first introduced to Vesha's work through the lovely embroidered pieces she posts on Instagram. I love the way she combines embroidery with different textural elements like weaving, beading, and faux plants to create pieces that feel really lush and interesting. Her ability to interweave all different kinds of texture really bring the pieces to life. It's still early in her career, and she doesn't even have a website yet, but I feel like she's definitely an artist to watch!

I’ve loved seeing the evolution of Vesha's work on Instagram from more traditional pieces to the unusual designs she’s been creating recently. I’m excited to see how her craft continues to grow and change, but, until then, read on below to learn all about her inspirations! Thanks, Vesha! ~Erin

Listen

A recent find for me is Lizzo's EP Coconut Oil. A friend recommended it to me while I was visiting her in LA last year, and I can't stop playing it. My mood goes from bold, to reflective, to silly, to triumphant while listening to this EP.

Read

A relatively recent read that I really love is Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. Eugenides somehow fits the lives of three generations of a family into one novel and provides the exact right level of detail for each of them to keep you hooked. The writing is stunning, and you find yourself building empathy for each character, even when the life choices they make might shock you (i.e. siblings marrying one another). If you want to experience a book that brings discussions of gender, race relations, genocide, and so much more onto the same plane, I cannot recommend Middlesex enough.

Watch

I just watched the Season 3 premiere of RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars. I've been a fan of RuPaul's Drag Race since 2011, and I love watching the creativity and talent of the queens on the show! The death drops keep my eyes glued to the TV every Thursday the show is on.
