Carolina T. Godina Ciria (Illustrator)
I've mentioned before my fondness for artwork that reminds me of childhood. Whether it’s a beautifully illustrated picture book or a cute animal painting, I've always been drawn to artwork that has a slightly childlike feel. I'm sure it has something to do with my love of reading as a child, when writers and illustrators were able to transport me to worlds that felt exciting and new!
Based in Barcelona, Carolina T. Godina Ciria is an illustrator who creates dreamlike narratives that transport me right back to the fairy tales I read in childhood. Her illustrations feel so familiar and welcoming, without being overly sweet or precious. The characters are both playful and dark, the landscapes somehow familiar, yet the style is all her own. I especially love the way she draws trees and leaves. There is something so distinctive and otherworldly about them, but, at the same time, they still feel lush and real.
Carolina's style is filled with such sensitivity and warmth that it could easily appeal to both adults and children! You can check out more of her ethereal illustrations on her website, right here. You can also follow her on Instagram. Scroll down to read all about her inspirations. Thanks, Carolina! ~Erin
Listen
"Pequeño vals vienés" by Silvia Pérez Cruz. It's a cover of a Leonard Cohen song "Take This Waltz"and the lyrics are a poem by García Lorca. I love so much the voice and the music of Silvia Pérez Cruz. It's magic, and I love Lorca too. It's a very special version for me. It's from the album Granada.
Another song I love is "Dearly departed" from Devotchka band.
And I love so much the album 'Hardbeliever' by Fink.
Read
Recently, I read a beautiful poem written by Agnès de Lestrade and illustrated by Valeria Docampo, titled Tout au bord. It's an illustrated album.
Another book that I have read recently is My family and other animals by Gerald Durrell. I really like this book.
Watch
I love so much The Song of the Sea. It's a very special animation film for me.
Another film that I love so much is Arrival, directed by Denis Villeneuve. Stunning.
Moreover, I want to add two documentaries that impressed me a lot: Virunga and Chasing Ice.
